The Regional Marine Pollution Emergency Response Centre for the Mediterranean Sea (REMPEC) had the pleasure of welcoming final-year BSc students from the University of Malta at its premises.
As part of their academic journey, the students were given an overview of REMPEC's work in preventing and responding to marine pollution incidents in the Mediterranean. The visit highlighted the Centre's key role in supporting the implementing of the UNEP/MAP - Barcelona Convention and International Maritime Organization Conventions, particularly in safeguarding the marine and coastal environment.
Through engaging discussions and presentations, the students explore:
- the regional cooperation under the Barcelona Convention
- the importance of contingency planning and capacity building
- how science, policy, and environmental intersect in marine protection
We are always proud to connect with the next generation of scientists and marine professionals, and we hope this visit inspires continued interest in marine conservation and regional collaboration.
