Inter-Ministerial Working Group Meeting for the revision of the Draft National Contingency Plan of Albania – Jul 13, 2010
REMPEC participated in the Inter-Ministerial Working Group Meeting held in Tirana, Albania, on 13 July 2010 organized by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Albania. The objective of the meeting was to discuss with the relevant competent authorities the revision of the Draft National Contingency Plan in view of defining the Albanian response structure and response strategy to ensure that the plan would be operational and fully assimilated by the national competent authorities in case of emergency.
The draft National Contingency Plan considered during the Meeting was developed in the framework of the bilateral project between the Government of Albania and the Government of Spain aimed at “Strengthening the Albanian Maritime Administration”.
At the conclusion of the meeting the Inter-ministerial Working Group and REMPEC agreed on a roadmap aimed at finalizing the revision of the draft national contingency plan in view of its submission to the Council of Ministers for approval by the end of 2010.
A similar activity is currently being carried out by REMPEC in Montenegro, while Malta, Libya and Turkey are also progressing in the formal establishment of their national system for responding promptly and effectively to oil pollution incidents as required by the OPRC Convention and the Prevention and Emergency Protocol of the Barcelona Convention.
