HELMEPA Marine Environmental Awareness Seminar – Mar 28, 2012

At the invitation of the Hellenic Marine Environment Protection Association (HELMEPA), REMPEC recently participated in the first Marine Environmental Awareness Seminar held in Athens, Greece between the 28 and 29 March 2012 organised by HELMEPA and the ProSea Foundation of The Netherlands. The Seminar was attended by some twenty-four participants including representatives of the Cypriot and Turkish Marine Environment Protection Associations (CYMEPA and TURMEPA), the Regional Organization for the Protection of the Marine Environment (ROPME), and a number of HELMEPA’s member-companies.

The Seminar, designed in accordance with the new IMO model course of the revised International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), highlighted the rationale and basic requirements of the main IMO conventions for the prevention of pollution from ships. Such training under the revised STCW Convention will be mandatory for all seafarers from 1 July 2013.

REMPEC takes this opportunity to commend the accomplishment of HELMEPA and sister organizations towards the protection of the marine environment by the seafarers’ community.
