2nd Meeting of the Competent National Authorities responsible for the Implementation of the Sub-Regional Plan in the South-Western Mediterranean – Jan 23, 2007

The Second Meeting of the Competent National Authorities responsible for the Implementation of the Sub-Regional Plan against Marine Pollution in the South-Western Mediterranean was held in Rabat, between 23 and 24 January 2007. The Meeting was opened on 23 January 2007 by Mr. Mohamed AMER, Secretary General of the Ministry of Regional Development, Water and Environment of Morocco, together with the representative of the Secretary General of the Arabic Maghreb Union (UMA), with the participation of delegations from the three countries signatories of the Agreement (Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia), and the presence of REMPEC representatives.

The Meeting assessed the respective and common developments since the 1st meeting held in Algeria in 2005 where the agreement was signed.

A programme of potential activities has been adopted and a first training course for crisis managers from the three countries is planned for the end of the first trimester 2007. The chairmanship of the Agreement will pass on to Tunisia at the end of June, 2007.
