Use of dispersant
Aerial surveillance  

Use of dispersants allowed, following prior official authorisation from the Marine Environment Protection Division (MEPD) of the Ministry of Mercantile Marine, Aegean & Island Policy (NCP: Annex LCP paragraphs 6.30, 6.34).

Related Legislation  

The Ministerial Decree No 5219 (2000) defines the requirements for dispersant storage and packaging.

Delimitation zones for the use of dispersants  

The use of dispersants is generally prohibited especially in enclosed and sensitive areas (swallow waters, coastal marine reserves, SPAs etc). It may be allowed on case basis, following prior official authorisation from the Marine Environment Protection Division (MEPD)

The national contact point for dispersant use is the MEPD

Dispersant testing procedures  

Dispersants which pass the relevant toxicity and effectiveness tests are approved for use in Greece.

SUPER DISPERSANT 25 (types 2 and 3) - OILER 60 (types 2 and 3) - MARICHEM OIL SPILL DISPERSANT (types 2 and 3) - UNICLEAN OSD ENVIRO (concentrated type)

List of competent laboratories authorized  

The State Chemical Laboratory in collaboration with the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research is responsible for the control and testing of oil spill dispersants. Toxicity and effectiveness tests are performed on the dispersants
