ATRAC visits REMPEC to explore further collaboration and synergy between the two Centres – Feb 26, 2020

The Director of the Adriatic Training and Research Centre for Accidental Marine Pollution Preparedness and Response (ATRAC), which became the sixth member to join the Mediterranean Assistance Unit (MAU) in June 2019, visited REMPEC to explore further collaboration and synergy between the two Centres.

ATRAC and REMPEC agreed to ensure coordination of their work and activities in respect of matters of common interest to support national capabilities for response to marine pollution, by sharing information and by collaborating in the development and implementation of projects.

ATRAC and REMPEC discussed concrete initiative with a view to establishing a bridge between the local (i.e. county, municipalities), national and regional networks to capitalise ATRAC and REMPEC’s efforts in the Adriatic region by:

  • collecting local data in the regional decision-support tool Mediterranean Integrated Geographical Information System on Marine Pollution Risk Assessment and Response (MEDGIS-MAR);
  • expending at local the use of the Readiness Evaluation Tool for Oil Spills (RETOS)
  • contributing in the preparation and implementation of the Adriatic Sub Regional Oil Spill Contingency Plan (ASOSCoP)
  • transposing in the Adriatic output from the ongoing  EU-funded project West MOPoCo
