3rd Meeting of the Competent National Authorities responsible for the Implementation of the Sub- Regional Plan in the South-Western Mediterranean – Apr 21, 2008

The Third Meeting of the Competent National Authorities responsible for the Implementation of the Sub-Regional Plan against Marine Pollution in the South-Western Mediterranean was held in Tunis, between 21 and 22 April 2008. The Meeting was opened on 21 April 2008 by Mr. Nourredine Ben Rejeb, General Director of the Tunisian Environment Protection National Agency (ANPE), with the participation of delegations from the three countries signatories to the Agreement (Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia), and the presence of REMPEC representatives.

The Meeting assessed the respective and common developments since the 2nd Meeting held in Morocco in 2007. The Meeting took also the opportunity to discuss about the results of the pilot project Marcoast (transmission of detection of oil slicks at sea through satellite images) and activities which could be carried out in 2009. The chairmanship of the Agreement will pass on to Algeria at the end of June, 2008.
