National workshop delivered by Safemed II on the Voluntary IMO Member State Audit Scheme (VIMSAS) in Israel – Jun 13, 2010

The SafeMed II Project, upon request of the Israeli Administration of Shipping and Ports, and with the close cooperation of the IMO, delivered a 3 days national workshop on the Voluntary IMO Member State Audit Scheme (VIMSAS) from 13 to 15 June 2010 in Haifa, Israel.

The Workshop was attended by nearly 30 participants from the Maritime Administration but also from various other National Authorities such as the Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Environment and Hydro-graphic services, which will all be involved in the Audit Process in the implementation of the State's duties as Flag State, Coastal State and Port State.

Lecturers Capt. Cahit Yalcin and Eng. Ioannis Efstratiou shared with the participants their respective experiences of the Audit Process as IMO Lead Auditor and National VIMSAS Contact Point. Albert Bergonzo organized the Workshop and led the participants through the exercises.

The Workshop was a very successful one, assisting the participants in their preparations to VIMSAS. Capt. Ygal Maor, Director of the Administration of Shipping and Ports, concluded the Workshop reaffirming his willingness and the commitment of the Israeli Authorities to volunteer in the near future to the IMO Audit Scheme.
