Farewell to Ms. Sophie Martin – Oct 05, 2011

Ms. Sophie Martin,  Junior Programme Officer Voluntary International Scientific (VIS) of the French Government – Seconded by the French Oil Company TOTAL S.A. to REMPEC has just ended her two years contract (15 October 2009 -  5 October 2011).
REMPEC greatly appreciates her involvement and contribution to the work of the Centre in the field of preparedness for and response to marine pollution from ships. Amongst other accomplishments, Sophie maintained REMPEC’s Alerts and Accidents database and contributed to the launch and maintenance of REMPEC’s website and the Mediterranean Waste Management Decision Support Tool.

Sophie also significantly supported the implementation of the GloBallast Partnerships Project in the Mediterranean region, aiming at reducing the risk of aquatic bio-invasions via ships’ ballast water.

The secondment by France of Junior Programme Officers in the framework of the French mechanism of International Scientific Volunteering enables REMPEC to benefit from the technical knowledge and dynamism of newly graduated student since 1979.
