11th Meeting of the EuroMed Maritime Working Group, Brussels, Belgium, 20 April 2016 – Apr 20, 2016

IMO and REMPEC together with representatives from Algeria, Greece, Israel, Tunisia, Palestine and Jordan participated in the 11th Meeting of the EuroMed Maritime Working Group, held in Brussels, Belgium, on 20 April 2016, organised by the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA), in cooperation with the Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE) and the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR).

The Meeting addressed the achievements regarding the implementation of the Regional Transport Action Plan (RTAP) 2014-2020, adopted in March 2015 by the EuroMed Transport Forum; ongoing EU maritime transport related projects; and focused SAFEMED III beneficiary countries’ expectations with regard to the technical assistance for the forthcoming project.

Following the presentations from the participants and subsequent discussions, the Working Group concluded the Meeting with a set of recommendations, reaffirming inter alia, the need of coordination and cooperation within the framework of the Regional Strategy for Prevention of and Response to Marine Pollution from Ships (2016-2021) adopted by 19th Ordinary Meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention (Athens, 9-12 February 2016) and the Mediterranean Network of Law Enforcement Officials relating to MARPOL within the framework of the Barcelona Convention (MENELAS).
