  • Add event to calendar iCal

The Workshop organised by the Regional Marine Pollution Emergency Response Centre for the Mediterranean Sea (REMPEC), in cooperation with the International Maritime Organization (IMO), is financed by the IMO Integrated Technical Cooperation Programme (lTCP).

The principal objectives of the Workshop are:

 -      to provide hands-on working knowledge on the use and advantages of tools to assess the level of oil spill response planning and readiness management, including oiled wildlife preparedness, enabling the analyses and identification of gaps in existing national oil preparedness and responses systems; and

 -      to prepare for National Workshops on the OPRC National System Improvement Plan, to be organised by REMPEC, in the biennium 2022-2023 (subject to the approval of the proposed budget). The latter activities are  to promote the development and implementation of the National Improvement Plan for each country to respond to marine oil pollution jointly with all national stakeholders.

Following the first session of the Workshop, the nominated participants will be invited to work together on the tool with the support of the lecturers, during a country-specific sessions, as proposed in the related attached planning. In view of the country-specific sessions, the designated national contact points will be requested to gather the necessary information, notably, the National Contingency plan and any relevant inventories and lists, to be shared with the participants of their respective countries and REMPEC, ahead of the second session of the Workshop, to allow the necessary familiarization with this material prior to the country-specific sessions.

The third session of the Workshop, to be held online mid November 2021, will present the outcome of the country-specific sessions, and will draw conclusions and recommendation for the next phase (i.e. National Workshops on the OPRC National System Improvement Plan).

The target audience for the Workshop are the representatives of the national governmental and operational authorities responsible for the preparedness for, and response to, accidental marine pollution; preferably those designated as such in the relative national contingency plans. In order to have a constructive debate during the webinar, you are kindly requested to ensure that the nominated participants have the technical expertise and knowledge required and that they are proficient in the English language.
